IN-BETWEENS
Intervention with exhibition content and space:
‘Endgame: Duchamp, chess and the Avant-gardes’ at Fundacion Joan Miro
I define In-betweens as spaces, situations and conditions between the lines of our daily routine.
In the physical sense, in-betweens are the ‘blind spots’: the niches within structures, the places we rush through- elevators, entrance halls or waiting areas. We see these spaces as just stops on our way to a destination – the blurry drawings which connect the key frames.
In the non-physical sense, I consider human sensibilities to be our inner in-betweens: they are also blurry, transient, hard to define.
In-betweens are fluid and difficult to grasp.
To experience them we need to be curious about the here and now: the ongoing process.
Embracing uncertainty and finding our movement in-between.
This work was presented at Fundación Joan Miro in December 2016
‘In-Between Chessfields’– Video Svea Postges
In life, like in chess, we move from one point to another within a given structure.
Often we are so focused on the next point ahead, that we tend to overlook what is happening, meanwhile in-between.
Visitors where invited to interact with the video installation using screens to ‘catch’ in-between frames of the projection.
